The S.C. Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services Office of Victim Services (OVS) is a pioneer among the nation’s probation/parole agencies in providing direct services to victims. The Office of Victim Services’ primary responsibility is to assist victims of crimes committed by offenders who are under the supervision of the Department.
Employees within the OVS are certified through the State Office of Victim Services Education and Certification. We endeavor to keep victims informed of the status of their cases. By providing comprehensive, responsive service, OVS can ease the frustration and anxiety that often accompanies the parole and probation process.
Its services include but are not limited to:
- Notifying victims of offender's court-ordered probation
- Monitoring restitution payments
- Collecting and routing Victim Impact Statements
- Assisting the victim/witness
- Providing support for victims at parole, revocation and pardon hearings
- Making referrals to community service providers
- Providing information about the offender's parole release and supervision
- Training for criminal justice and other victim services professionals
This combination of knowledge and participation enables victims to regain a sense of control over their lives, and helps restore their quality of life more quickly and effectively.
