Specialized Caseloads
Glossary of TermsSCDPPPS has three specialized caseloads where individuals are supervised closely to ensure compliance with court orders and intervention programs. These specialized caseloads, managed by extensively trained probation and parole agents, focus on specific groups. Each caseload is tailored to meet the unique needs of the population and enhance public safety.
Domestic Violence
The Domestic Violence Unit supervises individuals convicted of a domestic violence offense. The Domestic Violence Unit’s goals are victim safety, rehabilitation, and accountability. Goals are accomplished through specific conditions of supervision requiring no contact with victims unless allowed by the court, engagement in treatment, and attendance at group reports. Domestic violence agents work closely with victim advocacy providers and community-coordinated response groups to prevent future violence and promote healthier family dynamics.
Mental Health
The Mental Health Program supervises individuals living with debilitating mental illnesses. Agents supervise a reduced caseload with conditions of supervision that focus on building a strong rapport with individuals on their caseload and relationships with community partners to promote stability and reduce recidivism. Tailored supervision plans focus on individuals receiving appropriate therapy, wraparound services, and medication management. Mental health agents are also trained in crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to provide immediate support during a mental health crisis.
Sex Offender
The Sex Offender Program began in 2006 in response to the passage of Jessie’s Law. SCDPPPS implemented enhanced protocols including the administration of a sex offender-specific risk assessment tool, increased contact standards, specific conditions of supervision for sex offenders, and the use of a Global Positioning Satellite (GPS). The program focuses on the rigorous supervision and rehabilitation to protect the community and prevent reoffending.
The program acquired an electronics detection canine in November 2022 to enhance the search for hidden electronics. Using specialized software, digital forensic analysts search cell phones, tablets, computers, and gaming systems for the presence of explicit materials.
